New mainframe migration tools: It's really about app
modernization
By Wayne Kernochan, SearchDataCenter

the mainframe to other, typically Linux, platforms -- and
thereby cut IT costs significantly -- have become a more

successful application migrations continue to increase.

Legacy Integration: A Critical Part of SOA
By Ron Nunan, BJ Online
Today's enterprises are making substantial progress in moving
enterprise applications to a highly flexible distributed
architecture. Commonly referred to as a Service-Oriented
Architecture (SOA), this movement leaves behind the silo or
monolithic approach to solving business requirements and has

market.

Migrating Applications to Relational Databases
By Tsipora Cohen, VP Worldwide Marketing, BluePhoenix
Solutions
During the past 30 plus years many companies have deployed
mainframe applications designed to run in flat file, indexed
file or hierarchical database structures to organize application
data. But as technology evolved, relational database management
systems (RDBMSs) have largely replaced these pre-relational
databases as the preferred choice by information technology
departments. As a result, many organizations now run a mix of
pre-relational and relational systems and are looking for a way
to migrate their remaining applications to RDBMSs.
